We watched a cute little movie last night: Salami Aleikum is about a German-Persian family with a butcher-shop in Cologne. The son prefers knitting over slaughting. But when his father gets sick, he takes over the shop and goes on a business trip to import sheep from Poland. Crossing eastern parts of Germany, he encounters prejudices and quite a strong woman...
I love the animation in between the scenes. The pseudo-Persian music is rather kitsch but fits in. Differences in the minds of eastern and western Germans are exagerated, which makes the movie fun but not a representative socio-critical film.
Nice stuff for teaching German as a foreign language - if you talk about the conflicts and elaborate the stereotypes with your learners. Moreover, the slang of a learner of German (the butcher father) can be fun to learn about.
